WIOA In School Youth Specialist

Job Objective:
A WIOA Jag (Jobs for America’s Graduates) Specialist is a professional who works within the framework of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) to support and assist students in achieving employment and career goals. The primary focus of a WIOA Jag Specialist is to provide comprehensive services to young people who face significant barriers to education, employment, and career advancement. The JAG Specialist will provide high school students instruction based on the JAG standards in effort to achieve graduation and making a successful transition from school to a career/post-secondary education. This position requires working with other Managers, School Administrators and Case Managers from various departments in addition to the assigned high schools, Pro Resources and NIWB to ensure the needs of the departments and clients/students are being met.

Essential Job Functions:
• This position reports to the JAG Team Lead and Director of Youth Services who reviews performance annually.
• Establish a positive rapport and working relationship with the school district and building administration, faculty, and staff.
• Ensure students achieve specific JAG competencies through classroom instruction. Teach through a variety of methods including lecture, hands-on activities, project-based learning, and team teaching. Tailor the program and teaching methods for the needs of each specific student and implement an intervention strategy for each individual using an Individualized Development Plan.
• Work closely with the program’s in-school advisory committee to identify and select those students that need, want, and can profit from participation in the JAG program.
• Determine eligibility using local, JAG, state/federal regulations which impact the program.
• Providing individualized career counseling and guidance to participants, helping them explore career options, set career goals, and develop action plans to achieve those goals.
• Use a student-led organization, called the National Career Association, to motivate students using pride of membership (belonging), involvement and recognition to encourage participation in chapter activities for the purposes of reinforcing the JAG competencies and to achieve the desired program outcomes.
• Conduct follow-up contacts with both graduates and employers as prescribed in the JAG Specialist Handbook. This includes assisting participants in job search activities, including job matching, job applications, and interview preparation. Providing ongoing support to ensure successful job placement and retention, including addressing workplace challenges and connecting participants with necessary support services.

• Complete all required forms and documents required by JAG, school, and funding resources in a timely manner.
• Complies with all JAG and WIOA documentation requirements in a timely fashion including Collecting and maintaining accurate participant data and program records. Generating reports on participant outcomes, program performance, and compliance with grant requirements. Records information and data daily using the online Electronic National Data Management System (Jagforce) and Indiana Career Connect (ICC).
• Coordinate classroom, Career Association and program activities as assigned and assume full accountability for the following performance outcomes: graduation rate, positive outcome rate, aggregate employment rate, full-time jobs rate, full-time placement rate and connection rate.
• Delivering job readiness workshops and training sessions to equip participants with essential skills for employment success. Topics may include resume writing, interview skills, workplace professionalism, communication skills, and time management.
• Participate in JAG’s National Training Seminar and professional development training provided by both State JAG training, NIWB and Pro Resources.
• Cultural Competence: Sensitivity and understanding of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and individual needs. Ability to work effectively with participants from different socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
• Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Ability to assess complex situations, identify barriers to employment, and develop creative solutions. Flexibility and adaptability to adjust strategies based on participant needs and changing program requirements.
• Collaboration and Teamwork: Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with colleagues, program partners, and other stakeholders. Willingness to contribute ideas, share knowledge, and support program improvement efforts.
• All other job duties as assigned.

Required Skills/ Abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree in social service, counseling, business, education, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Have the ability to establish the appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with students.
• Have the ability to develop curriculum consistent with the JAG model.
• Must demonstrate a high functioning knowledge and skill of basic computer applications.
• Must be willing to work in a highly accountable and performance-based program.
• Ability to handle competing demands and effectively prioritize responsibilities.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to work with individuals at all levels of the organization
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
